Lorne Hammond, retired Curator of History at the Royal British Columbia Museum, spent 26 years working with collections and exhibits. His latest contribution adds BC content to the Human Rights Museum exhibit Beyond the Beat: Music of Resistance and Change (RBCM, May 30, 2025 – Jan 15, 2026). He taught at the University of Victoria, earning a master’s in BC fur trade history, followed by a doctorate on the 19th-century lumber trade (University of Ottawa) and a Fulbright year at Columbia University studying US-Canada philanthropy. His diverse experiences include military base life, farming, bookselling, punk music, sawmill work, and poetry studies with Phyliss Webb, Marilyn Bowering, and Robin Skelton.
